HOW LONG YOU SHOULD WAIT TO HAVE SEX?

She met me in a typical Spanish restaurant. When I arrived she was there enjoying some snacks and enthusiastic greeted me with a big smile. I was eager to find out how her most recent project “How you should wait to have sex” had developed.
The main character, Samantha Harper, has just turned thirty and she is ready to meet the man of her dreams in her birthday party.

How long should one woman wait to have sex?

The short answer is you have to read the book, the long answer is a woman needs to know herself, she needs to know when she can handle it and some women think they can handle casual sex but they can’t and they don’t always find out until after they have tried it. The guy never calls her again and hurts her feelings. He burst her ego.

Speaking about the subject and the atmosphere of the book I need to ask you If you are a fan of series like Sex and the City or Desperate Housewives. Is there any kind of influence of these series in the book?

I was personally influenced by Sex and the City, but When I watched Sex and the City I always thought Why I am not writing on the show, I am the perfect writer for that show. This show is saying exactly what I think already, so when you read the book, you will find a similarity to Sex and the City, but it didn’t influence me to write this way I already wrote this way before that.

Your book has an important amount of humor and comical dialogues, do you usually laugh at your own problems? Is it important for you that your readers do that?

I think that’s why I like to write comedy because I think that it’s easier to face your problems when you can learn to laugh at them. I mean if you don’t laugh at your problems in life you will just kill yourself because life is hard, It’s always hard for everybody and even when things are going great you always encounter something in the way.

Do you think your book is more orientated to women or can men read it and finally understand women?

Yes, to both. I think that it is more orientated to women, more geared toward females because a woman will be able to relate to the character in the book. I also agree that if a man has the courage to read a book written from the female point of view, he will learn a lot about how women think because the book is written in the first person.

Don’t you worry Men can learn too much reading your book? No, I think the more men can learn about women the more compassionate they can learn to become to women. I think one of the greatest problems we have when we are getting to know someone of the opposite sex is that we think they are just like us and they are not.

Why did you choose a 30th birthday for you book, do you really think youth is over at that point or maybe a crisis starts? I think that everyone is different but there is a lot of pressure put on turning thirty because when you are thirty it is the first time you are really an adult. People say you are an adult at eighteen but you are not, at that age you are still very immature, you still have a lot of adult things to learn. By the time you turn thirty you have had a job, you have dated a lot of people and most people by the time they turn thirty are starting to get married all around you, at least in the United States. Statistically  most people get married between 28 and 32.

Do you think Samantha friends help her enough to find the man of her dreams?.

I mean it’s an interesting question because your friends can’t really help you except by  introducing you to people because many people don’t listen to their friends advice. The funny thing in the book is all her friends send people to the party for her to meet, but she ended up meeting John, who is just there randomly. He is not sent by one her friends. I can imagine a television series based on the book, in which Samantha will go back in time to the bar and she will meet each of the other guys her friends sent over every time she goes back in time. In this book she only really gets advice from her best friend Lacey, and Lacey is kind of an idiot. She gives very bad advice usually.

Monique Sorgen is a French-American television and film writer. She is a woman trying to find a place in a literal world sometimes dominated by men which she has found to be true of Hollywood. The first thing that surprised me about her is her special ability to describe daily situations and make fun of everything. Her book has very good reviews on specialized book websites like Goodreads or Amazon and it’s easy to know why.

The comedy style, the hilarious dialogues and the detailed design of the characters build a great entertainment product. You will never look at the opposite sex in the same way.
